Funded by the National Lottery, Artist in Residence is part of the Year Of The Artist project.
In the Summer of 2000, Trident Housing Association, Birmingham appointed composer Li Jiang as Artist in Residence. Over a period of three months Jiang Li conducted a series of workshops in Cherish House a residence for Chinese pensioners.

The aim was to create a new piece of music by retrieving information, influences and ideas from the users of Cherish House. This music was reflected by the thoughts and life experiences of the participants.
The artwork became a valuable and most enjoyable part of the residents creative activities.
The final production was an exotic combination of Chinese traditional instruments and computer digital audio with an old Hakanese tune.
The project provided an opportunity for a wide range of people to come together and work with a professional artist.
